Mission In Possumville!
In light of the new Mission Impossible movie, I wanted to bring back this fun clip from Season 4, Episode 24: The Guard Dog Project
Mission In Possumville!
Red Green has received another honour. On the July 16, 2015 episode of the Jay and Dan podcast (podcast 72) done by former TSN and current Fox Sports One hosts Jay Enright and Dan O'Toole have continued their tradition of naming and giving exposure to prominent and exceptional Canadians by naming Red Green to their Canadian Wall of Fame. He will be joining such good company on the wall as Wayne Gretzky, John Candy and Michael J. Fox. The Jay and Dan Podcast is a great podcast and has quickly become a leading and popular podcast on iTunes.
Congrats again to Red Green as this is a great honour.
If you want to hear the naming and check out the podcast, please go here.
And a shout out to Dan for the new CKDJ tapes - hands down one of the best segments of the podcast. Plus it doesn't hurt that I can explain about why I am laughing loudly in my office (I'm in Ottawa, so people here get it generally) without looking like the stereotypical crazy guy in the office.
I wanted to do a quick post on what will be the final KUAC Red Green Regatta in Fairbanks Alaska. This has been a long standing event and is one that every Red Green fan should see, if not join in if they can. This event started as an excuse for some local fans to have some summer fun and has grown to this amazing event.
This years edition will surely be just as fun, however it will also have an appearance by Red himself, who will also be doing a monthly Lodge meeting from the Regatta.
As a reminder, this is going to be held on July 26th in Fairbanks, so if you can get there, I suggest doing it as like Fox Sports/TSN's Dan O'Toole would say "it is just about guaranteed to be a good time"!
Information for the event could be found on the KUAC TV page here.
Best of luck to everyone involved and thanks to all of the volunteers and supporters as well as KUAC TV for putting on such a great event!
Check out this page if you'd like to see photos of previous regattas
Just giving the heads up to all Lodge members to get onto www.redgreen.com to take in this months Lodge meeting and other fun items like the project of the week!
Additionally you can get the scoop on the mini tour planned for this fall!
In light of spring finally coming, I felt it was about time to do some spring cleaning around here. That means new colours, formats, designs and a complete makeover to the website. Should happen over the coming weeks when I can get at it, so check back regularly.
In the meantime, I hope you've been checking out your monthly Lodge meetings!
After chatting with Lodge Member Carl recently about the lodge, he had this question that he brought up for me:
"Did you ever notice the meteor that I think the crew unwittingly captured on tape in episode 17 (1991) at about 10:25 into the show? It's Red interviewing Dougy on his monster Jeep. Watch the blue sky closely! It zips by quickly."
Frankly this took me by surprise - I had never noticed it!!!!
I reviewed the episode in question (You can find it here) and find it hard to conclusively say that it is a meteor as the footage is too grainy.
So What is it??
While a meteor is possible, given the colour, swoop angle, and shape/size, I have to ultimately suggest that this was a passing bird in the background (likely a sea gull) and not a meteor. I got there as if you look at 10:25 of the footage, it comes downward quickly and sharply, however halfway through where we can see it on the screen at 10:27, it appears to fall slightly more horizontal and a touch slower, as if it was going into a curve - much like a bird would do.
So as I promised Carl, I leave it up to you, the lodge faithful - what was on the footage from episode 17? Was it a bird? Was it a meteor? Did Bill blow up the hot water tank? Was it something else? Vote in the poll below and feel free to post your comments as to what you think it is.
Just wishing all of the Red Green Show fans a Happy New Year!
Hopefully all of your projects and inventions will turn out well!!
As a side note, thanks to Lodge Member Carl for pointing out that Possum Lodge Chapter 11 is additionally a play on words to Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in the US. Definitely the type of humour that would be attached to the lodge.
As mentioned a few weeks ago on this website, there is big news coming regarding the original TV show Possum Lodge sets which were auctioned off from Mr. Used in Hamilton, last month in September. I would now like to take this opportunity to announce a fun new project involving those Possum Lodge Sets.
At this time, we would like to announce that...........
the Possum Lodge Sets were purchased by a big fan of the show, Don at Erie Collectables, who be putting them on display for all fans to see in 2015.
What to See
What I can tell you right now is that many of the original set props (not all of them) will be on display! This will include the following:
- Red's desk and chair from his office,
-The stairs to the meeting room in the basement
- The basement meeting room itself
Grab your duct tape, because that's right, the original Possum Lodge TV set is coming to Selkirk Ontario!!! More details will be passed along right here, as they become available.
I wanted to do a quick note today after receiving some very good and very interesting information. With the Lodge Set auction still fresh in my mind, we've all been able to reflect on memories and moments that we've enjoyed or stuck with us about the show.
All great stuff, but there is MORE to the story.
Since that auction, there has been some very interesting rumors being bantered around. While I will not be and can't comment about the validity of any of these rumours today, I want to let you, RGS fans, know that in the coming weeks these will be discussed.
What does that mean?
STAY TUNED to this website to hear more about it first.
I know that phrases like "you're not going to want to miss this" or "trust me, as a fan you'll love this" are thrown around a lot and have become meaningless. I don't want to join that club - If you're a fan of the Red Green Show, in this one case, please trust me when I say you're going to WANT to hear about this.
Have a great weekend everyone and stay tuned for more details!!!
I haven't been online much and with it, not many updates to the site. I did want to touch on the Possum Lodge Auction from last Sunday (15th). Congrats to everyone who made it down to Mr. Used in Hamilton or called them up for a phone bid - your the reason this show is so great!
Nice to hear that many people won some great things from the sets. As someone who runs a fan website, as well as someone who has visited these sets in the past, it is certainly a special place and nice to hear that it ended up in the hands of fans who appreciate it. It also is a bit of a sad moment as it is the end of an era for the downtown Hamilton landscape with Mr. Used downsizing as well as a change with these sets not being available for fans to publicly see.
I did want to answer something that many people on the Red Green Facebook page have been commenting on - the true end of the show. I won't lie to you, I don't expect there to be any more episodes. I think it'll be very unlikely there will be another movie (although the success of the Corner Gas movie in Nov/Dec may bring some interest up). The traveling shows seems to be right up the alley of Steve Smith and have been a lot of fun as a fan. That said, I refuse to admit the show is truly over and I say this for two reasons. First of all, Duct Tape Forever really didn't use any of the sets and certainly didn't have the lodge interior as we know it from the TV shows - so there is precedence. Secondly, The show is more to do with the great acting, writing and content than the crap lying around the halls or background of the lodge. They could easily do another movie or re-start the series (again I don't see that specifically happening) without these sets. I don't want to start a rumour about them re-starting something, but lets face it, the show is bigger than the sets.
I did want to give a shout out to the winner of the basement steps as those are both iconic and a fantastic part of the show's history. Treat them well my friend.
Win any of the auctions? Feel free to post below or give me a shout as I would love to hear more about what people plan to do with the items (what the wife said when you slipped home with it and tried to put it on the wall) and your favourite memories of the item from the show - maybe it was in a favourite scene or quote.
Been watching since Season 1 (I was 5) and was able to catch the last 10 minutes of the show before switching to The Pink Panther before lunch. The show is not a passion or obsession for me, but rather a really weird and interesting hobby. Nothing is more fun than getting that rare RGS collectible that no one else has or finding out a new tidbit of information that's never been shared anywhere. As I get older, I may be more opinionated and tech savvy, but always enjoy catching the Red Green Show for a laugh and the nostalgia.
