It's been awhile since I updated the website. As some of you regulars know, I have recently moved and have been per-occupied with that over the last few months. It's the summer, so it hasn't meant much of a change in RGS news outside of the ongoing "I'm not old I'm ripe" tour. New dates are being added all the time (just saw Saskatoon's new date on the RGS facebook page), so make sure your paying attention and are ready to get your tickets.

I wanted give an update to all RGS fans in the GTA that on the January Lodge meeting, Red mentioned that on October 26th he could confirm that there will be a tour date at Rama which will be filmed and made in to a Comedy Network special. It is a big deal for myself as I am a huge fan of Rama shows and you will definitely see me in the audience despite it being my own mothers birthday. Tickets will be on sale soon and I will announce this date on the website. I can open it up to a member meet and greet if enough people are interested in meeting beforehand. Please email or post on here if you are interested!
I wanted to throw on an update from a question I received from another RGS fan. If you have questions about the show, I would be happy to answer them - send me an email from the site and I will try to dig up what I can!
I have a question about season 3. During this season, Red and Harold had red and green suspenders for the first time. However, upon viewing the 3rd season episodes, I see that for some segments, such as the campfire songs, and a few "Handyman Corner" segments, they have 2 red suspenders, as in the first two seasons. Do you know why this is so? Eric A: As it turns out the answer isn't overly special at all and occurs throughout the series to differing degrees (it was just more noticeable earlier on as each season brought a larger degree of change to the main look and feel of the show). In this case, when they wrote and then filmed for a season, they would do a number of shots at one time and piece it together later on in the editing room. The length and what was cut/kept or even trimmed off of what was kept depended on the amount of running time the show could run (minus commercials) and how it fit together. Often due to time constraints or shooting too many segments, shows that don't run on a timeline (think 24 or House of Cards vs Seinfeld or the Simpsons) will re-use good completed segments that aren't use when originally intended on. So for example on RGS, they would have shot a whole season's worth of campfire songs during one night. They likely shot everything they had scripts for (some shows would shoot when they goofed around which made the show because it was really good) which may or may be more than they need. After filling up all the segments they wanted to use for season two, they would have taken anything remaining and used it in season 3. If you check the episode in season 3, you'll likely notice that they used the season 2 campfire shots over the first few episodes of the season before they used the newly shot stuff. I believe the Handyman Corner stuff is the same way in that season. They do this in later seasons but since there was less of a visual difference (suspender colours, Lodge crest on shit, beard colour/trimmed, etc) between the seasons after season 6, you don't really notice it very much. Hello fellow RGS fans. I thought I would throw on an update to this blog as there hasn't been much going on with Red's mini tour ending in the last week and another lodge meeting scheduled any day now (Halloween).
There are two really interesting pieces of news coming at us fans. For starters, Red announced at the September Lodge Meeting that he will be going on tour again in 2016 for the I'm Not Old, I'm Ripe Tour. I am personally excited as I missed the October 20th Perth Ontario date and would love to see another one man show of his. Hopefully with the success of these shows, we will see some shows expand to include other lodge members. Additionally, we were told at the September meeting that there will also be a new book coming in fall of 2017. The title is Red Green's Shoulda-coulda-woulda Book of Canadian Inventions. Certainly sounds like it is going to be an interesting book as it will be put out for the sesquicentennial anniversary here in Canada. It apparently may become a TV special. So that's it for news. Definitely much to be excited about as a fan of the show! And keep sending in your pictures and information about the show as I really enjoy posting it for other fans. In light of the new Mission Impossible movie, I wanted to bring back this fun clip from Season 4, Episode 24: The Guard Dog Project Mission In Possumville! Red Green has received another honour. On the July 16, 2015 episode of the Jay and Dan podcast (podcast 72) done by former TSN and current Fox Sports One hosts Jay Enright and Dan O'Toole have continued their tradition of naming and giving exposure to prominent and exceptional Canadians by naming Red Green to their Canadian Wall of Fame. He will be joining such good company on the wall as Wayne Gretzky, John Candy and Michael J. Fox. The Jay and Dan Podcast is a great podcast and has quickly become a leading and popular podcast on iTunes.
Congrats again to Red Green as this is a great honour. If you want to hear the naming and check out the podcast, please go here. And a shout out to Dan for the new CKDJ tapes - hands down one of the best segments of the podcast. Plus it doesn't hurt that I can explain about why I am laughing loudly in my office (I'm in Ottawa, so people here get it generally) without looking like the stereotypical crazy guy in the office. I wanted to do a quick post on what will be the final KUAC Red Green Regatta in Fairbanks Alaska. This has been a long standing event and is one that every Red Green fan should see, if not join in if they can. This event started as an excuse for some local fans to have some summer fun and has grown to this amazing event.
This years edition will surely be just as fun, however it will also have an appearance by Red himself, who will also be doing a monthly Lodge meeting from the Regatta. As a reminder, this is going to be held on July 26th in Fairbanks, so if you can get there, I suggest doing it as like Fox Sports/TSN's Dan O'Toole would say "it is just about guaranteed to be a good time"! Information for the event could be found on the KUAC TV page here. Best of luck to everyone involved and thanks to all of the volunteers and supporters as well as KUAC TV for putting on such a great event! Check out this page if you'd like to see photos of previous regattas Just giving the heads up to all Lodge members to get onto www.redgreen.com to take in this months Lodge meeting and other fun items like the project of the week!
Additionally you can get the scoop on the mini tour planned for this fall! In light of spring finally coming, I felt it was about time to do some spring cleaning around here. That means new colours, formats, designs and a complete makeover to the website. Should happen over the coming weeks when I can get at it, so check back regularly.
In the meantime, I hope you've been checking out your monthly Lodge meetings! After chatting with Lodge Member Carl recently about the lodge, he had this question that he brought up for me: "Did you ever notice the meteor that I think the crew unwittingly captured on tape in episode 17 (1991) at about 10:25 into the show? It's Red interviewing Dougy on his monster Jeep. Watch the blue sky closely! It zips by quickly." Frankly this took me by surprise - I had never noticed it!!!! I reviewed the episode in question (You can find it here) and find it hard to conclusively say that it is a meteor as the footage is too grainy. So What is it?? While a meteor is possible, given the colour, swoop angle, and shape/size, I have to ultimately suggest that this was a passing bird in the background (likely a sea gull) and not a meteor. I got there as if you look at 10:25 of the footage, it comes downward quickly and sharply, however halfway through where we can see it on the screen at 10:27, it appears to fall slightly more horizontal and a touch slower, as if it was going into a curve - much like a bird would do. Your Decide So as I promised Carl, I leave it up to you, the lodge faithful - what was on the footage from episode 17? Was it a bird? Was it a meteor? Did Bill blow up the hot water tank? Was it something else? Vote in the poll below and feel free to post your comments as to what you think it is. |
AuthorBeen watching since Season 1 (I was 5) and was able to catch the last 10 minutes of the show before switching to The Pink Panther before lunch. The show is not a passion or obsession for me, but rather a really weird and interesting hobby. Nothing is more fun than getting that rare RGS collectible that no one else has or finding out a new tidbit of information that's never been shared anywhere. As I get older, I may be more opinionated and tech savvy, but always enjoy catching the Red Green Show for a laugh and the nostalgia. Archives
